UNC Pembroke student leaders Timothy Moore and Aspen Andersson were among the presenters at the 2023 IMPACT Conference held at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst February 23-26.

Their presentation focused on incorporating a student engagement model within the service-learning curriculum, which helps shape UNCP faculty and staff into service-learning catalysts.

Moore and Andersson shared how the university’s student engagement model––Brave Experience––is implemented within the Service-Learning Academy and service-learning courses. They discussed how the model allows faculty and students to be catalysts inside and outside the classroom.

Both highly accomplished, Moore, a senior, plans to graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He serves as chair of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council. Andersson, a junior political science major, is on the pre-law track with a double minor in Spanish and English.

As Student Service Leaders for Service-Learning, they work to facilitate the implementation of service learning across all departments.

The IMPACT Conference is the largest annual conference focused on the civic engagement of college students in community service, service-learning, community-based research, advocacy and other forms of social action. It brings together college students, non-profit professionals and campus administrators to share experiences, stories and resources in their work for social change.
