School of Education faculty and students participated in the State Advisory Council for Indian Education Summit held in Whispering Pines

UNC Pembroke students and faculty participated in the State Advisory Council for Indian Education (SACIE) Summit held in Whispering Pines on Feb. 27.

Staff members with the School of Education First Americans' Teacher Education (FATE) program led a breakout session that highlighted the impact of the FATE program on American Indian students. Rhyane Jacobs, Anna Oxendine and Miranda Jones participated in a student panel providing feedback about their experience in the program. The FATE staff who participated were Dean Loury Floyd, Kammala Brayboy and Chris Conner.

Drs. Tiffany Locklear and Olivia Oxendine, assistant professors in the School of Education, also attended. Locklear serves as the SACIE board chair. Oxendine serves as the North Carolina State Board of Education liaison to SACIE.
