Working on the Thanksgiving project was UNCP’s Student Government Association (SGA), Association of Campus Entertainment (ACE), Student Life, Greek Life, Leadership Service and Opportunity Program (LSOP), Multicultural Center, Staff Council, Lumbee Tribe, Carolina Arts Network, Healing Lodge and several other student organizations.
Inside each food basket was a turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, a pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, a 12-pack of soda and at least 20-25 canned goods. Sodexho Food Services, UNCP’s food provider, contributed pumpkin pies and helped purchase 40 turkeys and other food at cost.
“We are part of this community, and we like to help out wherever we can with our annual canned food drive and helping students with this project,” said Mike Nance, Sodexho regional manager.
The Lumbee Tribe identified 28 families and SGA the remainder, said Marvin Jacobs, SGA president, who helped deliver the food.
“This is my second year working with this project and it gets better every year,” Jacobs said. “I enjoy this project and so do the students.”
