UNCP pair receive UNC System-wide appointments

UNC Pembroke will have a strong presence in the Student Government Association at the UNC System level during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Jorden Revels and Jacob Newton both received executive positions with the University of North Carolina’s Association of Student Governments.

Revels will serve as the Associate Minority Serving Institutions Representative. Newton was appointed vice president of Budget and Finance.

Revels, a rising junior from Pembroke, is studying psychology. Newton, a rising senior from Raleigh, is a double major in mathematics and political science.

The UNC Association of Student Governments is the student organization designated to represent interests of students in the deliberations of the UNC Board of Governors.

In his new role, Revels’ duties will include upholding the General Assembly of the ASG’s mission of inclusiveness, ensuring a voice for all, and to serve as a valuable resource outlet to inform and advise the ASG president on issues and concerns that Minority Serving Institutions’ students face across the UNC system.

The seven minority serving institutions in the UNC System include UNCP, Elizabeth City State University, Fayetteville State University, N.C. A&T State University, N.C. Central University, UNC Greensboro and Winston-Salem State University.

Newton will administer and chair the Select Committee of Budget and Finance and be responsible for practices and policies relating to the fiscal management of the Association, including budget review, administration of grant programs, and other similar areas.

Revels and Newton are active members in the Student Government Association at UNCP. Revels serves as vice president. Newton is chair of the Government Operations Committee.
