UNC Pembroke has adopted a new policy on academic standing for all undergraduate students, effective in the fall semester of 2011.

Students must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA (grade point average) to remain in good standing. The requirements of the policy also affect qualification for graduation.

Academic probation will result if GPA falls below 2.0. Academic probations allows students to return to good standing while taking a maximum of 13 semester hours of classwork.

There are two ways to return to good academic standing during the probationary semester: 1) raising the cumulative GPA to 2.0; or 2) earning a 2.3 GPA on at least 12 hours of classwork in the probationary semester.

Academic probation rules for freshman and transfer students require that they contact the Office for Academic Excellence for advisement, meet monthly with their advisor and attend at lease three informative seminars.

If students do not satisfy the probationary requirements, academic suspension for one semester will follow. Please see the policy below for details.

The new policy was announced by the Office of Academic affairs after it was approved last spring by the Faculty Senate.
