UNCP cheerleaders place 2nd at CANAM Nationals

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke cheerleading squad completed its season by placing second in its division at Cheer Limited’s CANAM National Competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on March 16-17.

“I’ve never seen the team have so much fun out on the competition floor,” said coach Kristen Nusz. “They really blew the crowd away and performed wonderfully.”

The Braves’ cheer squad also took home fifth place honors at the annual Peach Belt Cheer and Dance Competition that is held in conjunction with the conference basketball tournament. The UNCP dance team placed seventh in the competition.

“I am very proud of both teams and how hard they have worked this year,” said Nusz. “Both teams continue to improve each year.”

Tryouts for the 2006-07 UNCP cheer squad will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m. in the main gym of the Jones Athletic Center. Please contact Kristin Nusz for more information at 910.522.5724 or email kristen.nusz@uncp.edu.
