Sabrina Doan, a spring 2022 graduate of UNC Pembroke, has been awarded a fellowship this summer at Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft in Columbia, North Carolina.

Doan earned a bachelor's degree in studio art on Saturday. The Pocosin Fellowship begins this week and continues through August 28. Fellows receive a stipend and participate in weekly workshops while living at the school in exchange for assisting with their summer programs.

"This will be a transformative experience for Sabrina as she'll be exposed to materials and methods that we don't offer here at UNCP. She will be working alongside professional artists of national and international repute," said Austin Sheppard, an adjunct professor and Doan’s mentor.

"The fellowship will likely serve as a springboard into a career in the arts. They couldn't have made a better choice than Sabrina."

Doan served as a hawk assistant with the art department for two years.

"Sabrina has been one of our most dedicated students. Her personality and enthusiasm are infectious, and her impact on the team's morale will be unquantifiable but significant,” Sheppard added.
