It will be the largest-ever edition with 116 pages and 31 pieces of art. The2009 edition won a Best of Show from the North Carolina College Media Association for universities with more than 6,000 students.

Aurochs’ Editor Craig Wilson, who won an honorable mention award for a work of fiction, said the 2010 edition is a good one.

“I hope we continue to win more awards,” he said. “This is our biggest edition with more contributors than ever.”

The 2010 edition includes poetry, art, fiction and creative non-fiction. It included collaboration across campus.

“I asked Dr. (John) Labadie if his digital art class could produce a cover, and he agreed,” Wilson said. “I picked a piece by Kasey Hooker, and he did the section covers in the same theme.

“I liked that collaborative aspect to this edition,” he said. “I really enjoyed that.”

Wilson, who would like to write young adult fiction and edit in the publishing industry in the future, contributed two of his own short stories to the edition.

cover“I like to write young adult fiction,” the editor said. “These stories are about young and inquisitive people.”

For the near future, Wilson, who is a Teaching Fellow, plans to teach middle school English and social studies. While editing Aurochs this semester, he did his student teaching at a local school.

“With student teaching and Aurochs, it has been a busy semester,” he admitted. “I think it was worth the work.

“I think there is a good mix of student work in this edition,” Wilson said. “I hope the campus enjoys it.”

Free copies of Aurochs will be available in the University Center Lobby on Thursday, April 29 from 4-7 pm and at five newsstands across campus.

Dr. Karen Helgeson of the English Department is the founding faculty advisor.
