In its final meeting for 2002, the UNC Pembroke Board of Trustees approved a small increase in Student Fees.
The proposed increase in student fees for the 2003-2004 school year would result in total fees of $980, compared with $934 last year. A campus committee of students, faculty and administration representatives recommended the increase.
The five percent increase must be approved by the UNC Board of Governors, which supervises all 16 UNC campuses. A Board of Governors committee recommended last week no tuition increases for next year.
Athletic fees would increase $11, health services $5, technology fees $8, activity fees $22 and debt services would increase $8. Activity fees include the school yearbook, newspaper, intramural sports, student government and University Center costs.
The Board of Trustees also approved a list of 329 graduates to receive degrees at Winter Commencement on Dec. 14. It is the largest number of graduates in the three-year history of Winter Commencement. A record 91 graduate students will receive diplomas.
In other news, the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to affirm its earlier support for the Braves nickname for the school's athletic teams. An NCAA committee has requested information about Native American mascots and nicknames.
