Students present at an undergraduate research symposium sponsored by Sigma Delta Pi.

Sigma Delta Pi, the national Spanish Honor Society, celebrated its centennial this year, and while the UNCP chapter has not been around that long, it has certainly packed in a lot of activities!

In April 2019, the organization held an undergraduate research symposium. Eleven students presented research they had completed related to their Spanish major.

In October, Sigma Delta Pi members and officers also presented on issues related to the environmental crisis in the Amazon rainforest at the annual Hispanic Fall Festival. The group, which includes Joseph Lewis, Flor Adams and Alisabeth Limon, finished off the semester by inducting a new member, Azael Perez.

“We look forward to planning and participating in more activities next semester and to continuing to highlight Hispanic culture and demonstrate the high academic achievements of students in our major,” said Sigma Delta Pi advisor Dr. Diana Lee.
