Rawan Abumohsen, a Fall 2020 graduate of UNCP, has been accepted into Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University.

Abumohsen, who earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, was an active member of several academic organizations including the Maynor Honors College, Alpha Chi National Honors Society, Muslim Students Association, Health Careers Club and Student Honors Council, where she served as president.

As much as she contributed to student life at UNCP, Abumoshen stressed that the relationship was reciprocal. “UNCP really allowed me the opportunity, resources and community to help build an outstanding resume and become a competitive applicant. In the future, I plan to come back and work in an underserved area in North Carolina. UNCP taught me the importance of giving back.”

Originally from Palestine, her family moved to Robeson County when she was young. While at UNCP, she was consistently named to the Chancellor’s List and Honors List and was a recipient of the Academic Enhancement Scholarship, Clinical Health Summer Internship Scholar Award, Tri-beta Biology Honors Society Scholar Award, Lumberton Rotary Club Scholarship, Science Enrichment Program Scholar Award, Provost’s Fellowship Award, and the Harry Hutchinson Gibson Scholarship.

Additionally, Abumoshen participated in the Science Enrichment Program at UNC Chapel Hill and the Clinical Health Summer Program at UNCP.
