Mass Communication student lands internship with Volunteers of America

Senior Mass Communication student Octavia Johnson has been hired as a marketing and communications intern with Volunteers of America.

Johnson will join Volunteers of America’s national communications and marketing department and assist in creating the 2019 Annual Report and social media content. Johnson is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in Mass Communications and Journalism with a minor in Creative Writing.

Johnson’s past experiences include working as floor staff at the Regal Kingstowne 16 and volunteering for MLK Week of Service Kick-Off, Community Action Day of Service and UNCP’s Care Resource Center.

“We are delighted to add Octavia Johnson to the Volunteers of America national team,” said Brian Gavin, senior vice president for Communications and Marketing. “Her journalism and social media experience well position her to succeed in her time with us.”

At UNCP, Johnson serves the Campus Life Editor of the Pine Needle and vice president of Media and Marketing for the Residential Hall Association.
