The world’s longest-running and most popular Queen tribute band, Queen Nation, is coming to the Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke on Oct. 11.
The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at uncp.edu/gpactickets or by calling the GPAC Box Office at 910.521.6361.
Queen is arguably one of rock music’s most iconic bands. The movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, about the band and its legendary singer earned multiple awards this year, including four Oscars and a Golden Globe. Queen Nation brings the energy of Freddie Mercury and Queen to life and celebrates the music of the band’s successful career.
Queen Nation’s presentation of Queen’s greatest hits preserves the image, sound, and stage persona of vintage Queen. Audiences are amazed at the accuracy of Queen Nation’s live retrospective journey through such songs as “We Will Rock You,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Are The Champions,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “You’re My Best Friend,” “Another One Bites The Dust,” “Under Pressure” and many more.
Queen Nation was formed in 2004, and consists of Gregory Finsley on vocals and keyboards as Freddie Mercury, Mike McManus on guitar as Brian May, Pete Burke on drums as Roger Taylor, and Parker Combs on bass as John Deacon. The band’s mission is to carry on the musical torch and pay homage to the golden age of vintage Queen concerts.
According to guitarist McManus, the group is also dedicated to replicating Queen’s trademark, including audience participation.
“We try to get them involved as much as possible. We encourage singing along. We tell them right at the beginning of the show that ‘we’re not going to do all the work. We want to hear you guys singing loud and clear,’ and it usually works.”
Other performances coming to GPAC include “Cirque Mei” at 4 p.m. on Oct. 27 and the farce “Noises Off!” on November 14 and 15.
