Jared Tuton awarded second NC Space Grant

Biology major Jared Tuton is the recipient of a second North Carolina Space Grant.  Tuton joins a distinguished group of undergraduate and graduate students from across the state whose STEM research for 2021-2022 is funded by space grants.  Tuton's research, which is mentored by Dr. Karen Farizatto in the Bahr Lab, is entitled, Role of Modulating Integrin-Type Adhesion Signaling During Seizure Pathology that Affects Synaptic Integrity and Plasticity.

Tuton’s first space grant was awarded in 2020-2021 for his research entitled, Repair Pathway for Reducing Seizure Vulnerability that Compromises Hippocampal Synapses, and he was recently awarded a John Bewley Derieux Research Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research at the annual conference of the North Carolina Academy of Science.  Dr. Farizatto is an Adjunct and Research Assistant Professor in the UNCP Department of Biology.
