Dr. Eva Skuka, dean of the College of Health Sciences at UNCP, was recently appointed to the Scotland Healthcare Board of Trustees.

Skuka joined the board at its annual meeting last month.

“I have deep respect for the vital role the Scotland Health Care System (SHCS) plays in our community, and I am fully aligned with its mission to improve health outcomes across the region,” Skuka said. “I look forward to working alongside a dedicated team of professionals, fellow trustees, staff and community leaders to champion the values of compassionate, patient-centered care that lie at the heart of SHCS’s work.”

Skuka said the appointment allows her to leverage her clinical and academic expertise to help address healthcare's evolving challenges and support initiatives to alleviate workforce shortages, which continue to impact rural healthcare systems.

“This appointment is both a privilege and a personal commitment — it allows me to give back to a community I deeply care for while contributing to a healthcare system creating lasting, positive impacts for generations to come,” Skuka said.

Dr. Diane Prusank, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, said the university is honored by Skuka’s appointment.

Dr. Skuka is a renowned scholar and doctor dedicated to advancing healthcare," Prusank said. "Her leadership and contributions exemplify the exceptional caliber of faculty at UNCP and further underscores the university's commitment to community impact."

Skuka joined UNC Pembroke in 2022 after serving as associate provost and dean of the School of Health Studies at Berkeley College. Skuka established an LPN to BSN program at Berkeley, the first of its kind in New Jersey. Skuka began her career as a medical doctor, practicing for seven years before moving into higher education administration. She has taught health science and healthcare administration courses and was an evaluator for the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. Skuka is a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Group Management Association, American College of Medical Practice Executives and American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dr. Skuka earned a medical degree from the University of Tirana School of Medicine in Albania and a doctoral degree in Human Services and Healthcare Administration from Capella University.
