Greener Coalition
The Greener Coalition received the 2018 Chancellor's Cup that included a $1,000 cash award. Its mission is to promote repairing and renewing our community; discussing environmental issues and finding solutions to better UNCP and the community; educating and encouraging healthy lifestyles, and promoting eco-friendly technologies that include eco-farming, solar energy, and biofuel.

Last week the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership (OSIL) held its 2018 Student Leadership Awards, recognizing student leaders, groups, and activities exemplifying the values outlined in OSIL's mission.  Many of the recipients are students, faculty, and staff in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership recognized student leaders and organizations that have proven excellence during the 2017-2018 academic school year.

 

The following individuals and student organizations were recognized :

 

Individual Awards

  • Outstanding New Advisor: Sallyann Clark (Mass Communication)  advisor to Broadcast Education Association
  • Advisor of the Year: Hannah Baggott Anderson (English, Theatre, & Foreign Languages) advisor to Spectrum and The American Association of University Women
  • Individual Values-Based Leadership Award: Hunter Nicole Smith
  • Emerging Leader of the Year: Thomas Crowe-Allbritton
  • Unsung Leaders of the Year: Joshua Oxendine, Rianna Spann, and Wanya Ward
  • Outstanding Leaders of the Year: Natural Breeden, Savannah Melvin, and Alexander Stevens
  • Sorority Person of the Year: Melanie Beck, member of Kappa Delta Sorority

 Group Awards

  • Group Values-Based Leadership Award: Spectrum
  • Collaborative Program of the Year: Student Government Association (SGA), The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and Brother2Brother for their event “Diversity Dialogue”
  • Outstanding Collaboration Award: The Greener Coalition, collaborating with UNCP Campus Garden and other sustainability efforts on campus
  • Outstanding New Student Organization: Braves Track Club
  • Sorority of the Year: Alpha Pi Omega Sorority, Inc.

 

Community Awards

  • Embracing Difference Award: North and Belk “NoBel” Resident Advisors for their event “NoBel Stereotype Fashion Show”
  • Most Innovative Program: Lead Fellows for their “Leadership Takeout Series”
  • Responsible Citizenship Program of the Year: North and Belk “NoBel” Resident Advisors and Hall Council for “Pie’n your NoBel CD, RA, and Hall Council”
