This fund is for young African Americans with leadership potential who are interested in civic engagement and community. In addition to the scholarship, recipients are connected with service and leadership development opportunities.
Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship
The Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to master's degree candidates in social work who have demonstrated a commitment to working with, or who have a special affinity with, American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino populations. Candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to working with public or voluntary nonprofit agencies or with local grassroots groups in the United States are also eligible.
North Carolina Society for Clinical Social Work Scholarship Program
The North Carolina Society for Clinical Social Work (NCSCSW) offers awards to recognize Master’s level students and current practicing professionals who are committed to providing clinical social work services to people in underserved minority populations. The purpose of this program is to reduce behavioral health disparities and improve behavioral health-care outcomes for underserved populations by increasing the number of culturally competent master’s-level social work students and professionals serving these populations.
National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) Scholarships
The NABSW offers various scholarships based on merit, community involvement, and interest in furthering the development of African-American students. The scholarship with the highest award ($2,500) is the Cenie “Jomo” Williams Tuition Scholarship for full-time students in accredited social work programs.
CSWE Minority Fellowship Program – Master’s
The Master’s Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) is a program designed to enhance the training of full-time, master’s-level, direct practice-focused social work students in their final year of study at a CSWE-accredited institution. Applicants must identify mental health and/or substance use disorder service delivery to racial/ethnic minority populations as their focus, and be committed to seeking employment in this field after graduation.

Philanthropic Educational Organization International Peace Scholarship
This program awards scholarships to women from countries other than the United States and Canada who are pursuing a graduate degree in the U.S. Recipients are committed to advocating for peace and women’s equity
Holm Award, two $1,000 prizes and one $500 prize, for final-year master’s students who submit winning papers. Osman Award, two $1,000 prizes for first-year master’s students who submit winning papers. You must be a Full EPICC Member to submit a paper.
Verne LaMarr Lyons Scholarship
The Verne LaMarr Lyons Memorial Scholarship is awarded to master's degree candidates in social work who demonstrate an interest in or has experience with health/mental health practice and have a commitment to working in African American communities. Previous recipients now work in hospitals, medical clinics, and social services agencies that provide treatment and specialized services to African American patients.
This is a need-based scholarship fund for students actively advocating for peace and social justice in their community and on campus. Grantees are often active in the struggle against homophobia, racism, and sexism, or in building foundations for economic justice and peace.
American Indian Graduate Center
Students must be seeking a full-time degree at a nationally or regionally accredited higher education institution in the United States. All applicants must be able to demonstrate tribal affiliation through the submission of a tribal eligibility certificate. The Carl A. Scott Memorial Fund was established by the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE's) Board of Directors in recognition of Carl A. Scott’s contributions to CSWE and the social work profession.
American Association of University Women
One of the world’s largest sources of funding for graduate women, AAUW is providing $3.9 million in funding for fellowships and grants to 250 outstanding women and nonprofit organizations in the 2018–19 academic year. Due to the longstanding, generous contributions of AAUW members, a broader community of women continues to gain access to educational and economic opportunities — breaking through barriers so that all women have a fair chance.
NAACP Jackson Graduate Fellowship Program
This program of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) provides $2,000 stipends to members who are full-time graduate students.
Student must be of Hispanic or Latino heritage and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Student must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident pursuing their first graduate degree and must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Each HSF scholarship and grant may also have its own specific requirements. Scholarships are available for both undergraduate and graduate students.
North Carolina Forgivable Education Loans for Service
Established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2011, the Forgivable Education Loans for Service provides financial assistance to qualified students enrolled in an approved education program and committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program is a government initiative to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full time in public service jobs. Borrowers may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on their Federal Direct Loans after they have made 120 payments on those loans under certain repayment plans while employed full time by certain public service employers. National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program
The NHSC Loan Repayment Program is a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and works to offer loan repayment to social workers for a two-year commitment in a shortage area, and who are licensed in the state they plan to serve. The Loan Repayment Program offers funding based upon the need of the community in which a provider work.
The North Carolina Office of Rural Health administers the North Carolina State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). This program helps behavioral health providers provide primary and psychiatric care to people in rural and underserved areas. The Office of Rural Health Placement Services team works to identify opportunities to practice in an integrated care setting that matches the providers personal and professional needs with community needs. These integrated care opportunities are in a variety of practice settings including Federal Community Health Centers (also known as Federally Qualified Health Centers, or FQHCs), State-Sponsored Rural Health Centers, County Health Departments, State Mental Health Hospitals, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Centers, Community Mental Health Facilities, and others.
NHSC Substance Use Disorder Workforce Loan Repayment Program
To combat the nation’s opioid crisis, HRSA launched the NHSC Substance Use Disorder Workforce Loan Repayment Program (SUD Workforce LRP). The most effective treatment for opioid addiction is a comprehensive approach that incorporates medication and behavioral health counseling. The program supports the recruitment and retention of health professionals needed in underserved areas to expand access to SUD treatment and prevent overdose deaths.
NHSC Rural Community Loan Repayment Program
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Rural Community Loan Repayment Program (LRP) is for providers working to combat the opioid epidemic in the nation’s rural communities. The NHSC Rural Community LRP will make loan repayment awards in coordination with the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) from the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP). This will provide evidence-based substance use treatment, assist in recovery, and prevent overdose deaths across the nation.
Licensed primary care clinicians in eligible disciplines can receive loan repayment assistance through the NHSC Loan Repayment Program (NHSC LRP). In exchange for loan repayment, you serve at least two years of service at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
