Visiting Scholar Insurance

The Department of State requires all J-1 Exchange Visitor Program participants to have and maintain health insurance for the entire duration of their J status. This insurance must cover the exchange visitor and all accompanying family members.

Scholars will work with OGE to secure insurance. UNCP uses GeoBlue for scholar insurance.

This plan covers all participants for accidents, sickness, medical evacuation and repatriation, as well as the government minimum coverage amounts: US$100,000 per accident or illness; US$50,000 provision for medical evacuation; and US$25,000 maximum repatriation coverage, with a US$500 maximum deductible .

Please note that failure to maintain adequate health insurance for the principal and dependents throughout the duration of your DS-2019 is considered to be a violation of the Exchange Visitor Program regulations, which will result in termination from the program.

Please fill out the form below to request your insurance.
