Evidence shows that conversations across difference are the single strongest environmental predictor of leadership development. Conversations Across Borders, a virtual series brought to you by UNC Pembroke's Office of Global Engagement and Office of Campus Engagement and Leadership, features interviews with people from around the world discussing how they engage in leadership, global citizenship, and change making. Episodes will premiere via YouTube throughout the semester.  Join us live to connect using the in-browser chat feature during the premiere and after the premiere videos will be available permanently on YouTube.

Alhelí Aranda Britez, Paraguay

HR Manager for Sales, Bimbo Bakeries, USA

Alhelí introduces Paraguay and its culture to the listeners, including Paraguayan food, traditions, economy, and geography. She also talks about some of the similarities and differences between American and Paraguayan cultures when it comes to leadership and gender-roles.

Dr. S Anandavalli, India

Assistant Professor, Southern Oregon University

Valli talks about her journey from India to the United States, and how that journey affected her identity. She talks about feminism and privilege within Indian culture and compare it to American culture.  Also, she introduces the listeners to the Indian festival Holi.

Yazeed Aldhwayan

 

Yazeed Aldhwayan, Saudi Arabia

MS Candidate in Data Analytics, Valparaiso University 

Yazeed shares with the listeners a different view of Saudi Arabia, its geography, and its culture. He talks about how tribal ties, gender roles, and religion can affect leadership in Saudi culture. Also, he ends the interview with words of wisdom shared by Saudi elders.
