Department Resources

The Department of Geology and Geography has invested in lab and field equipment to support faculty education and research focus areas.

Geoscience Lab:

  • A large collection of minerals, rocks, fossils, and 3d models.
  • Research grade petrographic microscope and student petrographic scopes.
  • Impregnation equipment for rock samples.
  • Rock saw and sieve shaker. 
  • 3D aquifer model.
  • Gigapan Epic 100.
  • Access to nearby electron microprobe and SEM facility with modest academic pricing:  SENCR-MIC.

Field Equipment:

  • GPR - MALÅ XV Monitor with 500 MHz, 250 MHz, and 100 MHz antennas
  • Water level measurement tapes, a submersible pump, stream flow meters, wading rods, current meter digitizers, temperature sensors, pH meters, multiprobes YSI ProDSS, alkalinity test kits, digital titrators, and Photometer YSI 9500.

Cartography Lab:

  • Located at room 1314 on the first floor of Oxendine Science building

  • Vaquform DT2 Professional Desktop Thermoformer
