Admission Requirements

To apply for the Master of Arts in Teaching: Spanish Education Program, candidates must 

  • have a minimum undergraduate GPA of  2.75 
  • have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

We do not require GRE scores.

However, candidates without an undergraduate degree in Spanish must have completed the following Spanish prerequisites (or equivalents) before being accepted into the program:

  • SPN 3200: Literary Analysis and Criticism in Spanish (3 credits), and
  • SPN 3700: Advanced Grammar and Composition (3 credits)
  • Or, have passed the Praxis II Spanish: World Language 5195 with a qualifying score of 168

 

Submission Materials

Candidates must also submit the following materials:

  • a 200-250 word Statement of Purpose, written in Spanish and English
  • an Admission to Educator Preparation Acknowledgement form
  • the email addresses of three references 

 

Admission Interview

Candidates will be required to have an admission interview in Spanish with Dr. Ana Cecilia Lara, Director of the Graduate Program in Spanish Education. The interview will be recorded and will be used to evaluate proficiency in aural and spoken communication.

(The interview is similar to the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), which uses the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) scale.)
