Standard Syllabus Template

Note that following the template below is part of our compliance with our accrediting agency, NCATE (now CAEP); most of the elements on it aside from the education standards are also required by SACS. Rearrange and reformat at will, of course.

Syllabus Archive

Syllabi for all graduate courses since Fall 2010 are archived by the Program Director, and are available on request. Be sure to submit your graduate syllabi to the Program Director early in the semester in which you teach your course.

Graduate Faculty Status

  • Nomination form for Graduate Faculty Status is for those teaching methods and/or content courses
  • Attach a completed application to a current CV (listing your employment at UNCP), and submit to the Program Director at least one semester before you anticipate teaching a graduate course. The CV will also need to be sent to the Graduate Council in electronic form.
  • Note that graduate faculty status is subject to periodic renewal; please check with the Program Director at least one semester before you are scheduled to teach a graduate course, to confirm that your graduate faculty status remains active.

Statement on Research and Writing at the Graduate Level

This document was agreed upon by the graduate faculty in the department a number of years ago; it is generally shared with new graduate students, and is also included on the syllabus template above.

Proposal Form for Graduate Seminars

Periodically the Graduate Committee will put out calls for proposals for graduate courses. Please use the form below for your proposal, and email it to the Program Director at your earliest convenience. Feel free to consult with the Program Director about recent graduate offerings, or any other questions you might have. Successful proposals are selected by the Graduate Committee; the committee then submits schedule recommendations to the Department Chair, who makes the final decision about faculty scheduling.

Capstone Evaluation

Capstone Portfolios and Presentations are evaluated by the Program Director and  two other members of the Graduate Committee. In cases where an unusual number of Capstones take place in a given semester, a member of the Graduate Faculty not on the Graduate Committee may be asked to sit on an evaluation panel. The candidate giving the Capstone Presentation may invite guests to the presentation, including faculty not evaluating the Capstone. Those guests will not be allowed to remain in the room for the question-and-answer portion of the presentation, however. For members of the panel, the rubric is available below.
