MLK Week 2024

The Office of Student Inclusion & Diversity and the MLK Week Committee at UNC Pembroke recently announced events for MLK Week.

MLK Week will be celebrated January 15-20, 2024.

MLK Week recognizes the accomplishments of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and fosters conversations about social justice, civic issues and engagement in the community. 

Events to be held during MLK Week include:

January 15

  • Join the Office of Community and Civic Engagement as they serve with the Red Springs Fire Department from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this time, volunteers will be organizing and cleaning the station and will receive a tour of the station. Further details can be found on UNCP Serve

January 16

  • From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity will be sharing more information about MLK Jr., his work, and playing some of his most prominent speeches in the Student Center Mall. 
  • Participate in cleaning and beautifying the yards of Asbury Homes, an assisted living facility and group home from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Additional information can be found on UNCP Serve

January 17

  • From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., CCE and the Transfer and Commuter Center will be assembling Winter Health Kits and share the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. with a gallery wall. Taking place in D.F. Lowry. Sign up today on UNCP Serve
  • Make a difference in the lives of our local youth - Join Brave Foundations for their Hawk's Nest Takeover! Taking place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information or to sign up, visit UNCP Serve

January 18

  • Fight hunger with the Second Harvest Food Bank from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. More information can be found on UNCP Serve.
  • Join the Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity for A Brave Dialogue: Black Men's Experiences in America, taking place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Old Main 129. Sponsored by the Black and African American Committee and the Gender Equity and Inclusion Committee. 

January 19

  • Last fall, we helped Scotland County Parks & Rec rebuild their beloved playground - It's time to make a visit! Join Community and Civic Engagement as they visit Dragon Park for a park cleanup from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more details and to sign up, visit UNCP Serve

January 20

  • The INSPIRE Conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the University Center Annex. The INSPIRE Conference is a foundational leadership conference focused on helping students become more aware of their identities, experiences, values, and how these contribute to their identity as a leader. The conference introduces students to UNCP’s definition of leadership and helps them establish a foundation to grow and develop as a leader through active engagement in the Brave Experience.
