James B. Chavis
The James B. Chavis Award recognizes one Student Affairs employee who exemplifies character, professionalism and commitment to the mission of the Division of Student Affairs at UNCP.
This award is named in honor of Dr. James B. Chavis, who served as an administrator at UNC Pembroke for 35 years. During his tenure, he served as director of the student union, Financial Aid officer, administrative assistant to President English Jones, director of admissions and registration and dean of Student Affairs. In 1977, he took a year leave of absence to serve as the state’s chief ombudsman for Governor Jim Hunt. Dr. Chavis returned to the university and was named vice chancellor for Student Affairs in 1978. In recognition of his dedication to education, the Board of Trustees named the University Center in his honor in 1987. Dr. Chavis believes that what matters most in this world is what we do for others.
Criteria: (must meet all criteria)
- Have been a permanent employee of Student Affairs for at least five years
- Demonstrated exceptional service to Student Affairs
- Is a passionate advocate for the welfare of all students

Community Servant
The Community Servant Award recognizes two Student Affairs employees who have served the external (off-campus) community in a significant manner in a volunteer effort during the past year of the nomination.
Criteria: (must meet all criteria)
- Provided significant service as an individual or as a member of a community service group
OR - Provided long-term service to the Robeson County community as an individual or a member of a community service organization(s).
- Provided significant service as an individual or as a member of a community service group

Program of the Year
The Program of the Year Award recognizes one program and/or grant by a Student Affairs individual or team that has had a positive impact on the campus community.
NOTE: The program may be defined as a singular event or a long-term activity.
Criteria: (must meet all criteria)
- Originated from at least one department within the Division of Student Affairs
- Submitted an idea that improved cost-effectiveness in a department, and/or addressed a specific problem or issue
- Made a positive impact on the campus community

New Employee of the Year
The New Employee of the Year Award is awarded to two Student Affairs employees who have demonstrated consistent and exceptional service.
Criteria: (must meet all criteria)
- Been a permanent employee of Student Affairs for two years or less
- Demonstrated excellence in serving students
- Demonstrated positive consistent work habits

UNCP Ambassador
The UNCP Ambassador Award recognizes two Student Affairs employees who has brought recognition and/or funding to UNCP, from outside of the campus community, while performing professional duties.
Criteria: (must meet all criteria)
- Represented UNC Pembroke in a manner that resulted in positive recognition to the University.

Student of Excellence
The Student of Excellence Award recognizes two Student Affairs student employees who have demonstrated excellence in serving students and who have sustained superior work performance while exemplifying a positive attitude, initiative and cooperative spirit.
Criteria: (must meet all criteria)
- Student employee in a Student Affairs department for at least one semester
- Demonstrated excellence in serving students
- Demonstrated sustained superior work performance
- Demonstrated a positive attitude, initiative and a cooperative spirit while working with others

Energizer
The Energizer Award recognizes two Student Affairs employees who have helped energize and enhance staff spirit and morale.
Criteria: (must meet all criteria)
- Demonstrated support for other staff in the department
- Promoted positive energy for self and others at work
- Promoted the involvement and engagement of others in their work

Bright Idea
The Bright Idea Award recognizes one or more Student Affairs employees who have suggested an idea or procedure that, when implemented, resulted in improved operations in a department.
Criteria:
- The nominee submitted an idea that
- improved operations in a department, and/or
- improved cost-effectiveness in a department, and/or
- improved a procedure that enhanced safety or convenience for a department, and/or
- brought about a solution to a problem in a department

Partner of Distinction
The Partner of Distinction Award recognizes an individual or group, outside of the Division of Student Affairs, who has made outstanding and/or sustained contributions to a program, department, or the mission and vision of the division.
Criteria:
- Individual or group outside the Student Affairs
- Has demonstrated exceptional service to Student Affairs
- Is an advocate for the welfare of all students
