Golf carts aren't just for the links anymore. Many industries are taking advantage of these and other low-speed vehicles (LSVs) for easy transportation. But, with the increase in usage comes an increase in incidents. In fact, thousands of golf cart incidents happen every year, many of which are severe and sometimes even fatal.

Training is for students, faculty or staff whose work duties include the use of a golf cart.  Golf cart training shows drivers how to properly identify potential dangers and hazards associated with operating a golf cart or utility vehicle. 

Learning objectives:

• Use caution when entering or exiting an enclosed area such as a warehouse.
• Never stand up while driving a golf cart.
• Do not exceed the vehicle's seating capacity.
• Bring the vehicle to a complete stop before exiting.
• Reduce speed around corners and over bumps.
• Vehicle inspection.
• Referencing the user's manual.
• The differences between golf carts or LSVs and automobiles.
• Keys to safe golf cart operation.
• Safe driving on hills and slopes.
• Braking, stopping and parking.

Below are the steps to complete the golf cart/utility cart training:

1. Read the attached Cart/Utility Vehicle Safety Regulation;
2. View the downloadable Powerpoint Golf Cart Training (below) and take the online test;
3. Fill out the acknowledgment form (below) and contact EH&S for your “driving test”; and 
4. Turn in the acknowledgment form to EH&S when you drive.
