A serial is an item that is published on a scheduled basis, such as a daily newspaper, a weekly magazine or a monthly journal. Serials are also known as periodicals. The Serials Department subscribes to the newspapers, journals, and indexes that the library requests, and maintains them in one of three different locations, based on format and the currency of the resource: microform, bound, or current issues.
The Serials Department staff is always available to assist patrons in locating sources and in demonstrating the proper use of microform machines. Because serials are used heavily by library patrons, they cannot be borrowed for use outside the Library. A typewriter is available for patron use; however, patrons must provide paper and correction fluid.
Feel free to contact the Serials Department staff to ask questions or make suggestions by phone at 910.521.6236 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
