Dean's Welcome

Dr. Beth Holder

Dear New Student –

Welcome to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke family.  This is an exciting time for you – and your family!!  As Nelson Mandela shares, “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  I commend your choice to further your education – as well as choosing UNCP.  The entire UNCP community embraces our vision of “changing lives through education.”

We are so proud of our students!  Each of you bring something unique to our campus community.  I encourage you to consider how you will leave a legacy at UNC Pembroke.  This may be starting a new club, serving the community, being a leader of a club/organization, making Dean’s List every semester, being a scholar athlete, being engaged in undergraduate research, participating in a musical/artistic venue, etc.  There are so many opportunities!  What is your passion and purpose?  And, how we can support you in turning your goals into realities?  Yes, you need to go to class, talk with professors about assignments, go to tutoring and study groups.  But, make your time at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke a wonderful journey both in and out of the classroom.

The journey to college is one of excitement and opportunities but can also be one of anxieties, uncertainty, and unforeseen challenges.  I urge you to seek assistance if your situation becomes trying or overly stressful.  We are fortunate to have a wide array of resources and services to support your journey.  This includes, but not limited to, professional academic advisors, tutoring, professional counselors, and residence life professionals to assist you.  I encourage you to be proactive and seek assistance when needed.

Meeting with students is one of my favorite things to do.  Please never hesitate to contact me if I can support your efforts.

It is going to be a wonderful journey!  Again, welcome to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke – welcome home!!

Go Braves!

Beth Holder
