The A.D. Gallery is pleased to present the work of New York based sculptor Mel Kendrick. This exhibition consists of large-scale sculptural works made in preparation for his 2010 installation titled "Markers", in Madison Square Park in New York City. The gallery’s utilitarian design is the model space for Kendrick’s monumental works.  In alternating layers of black and white, these animated yet imposing works range in height from 10-12 feet.  Kendrick’s treatment of surface, offers an intriguing investigation of texture, exposing serrated planes and sudden curves that move in unexpected directions.  The gallery’s clean palate compliments the massive works providing an ideal setting, allowing the viewer to focus on what they are seeing and to lose themselves in the complex forms. Made of EPS foam, the pieces act as working drawings, prototypes, and finished sculpture all at once.

Kendrick's recent awards and exhibitions include: Francis J. Greenburger Award, National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, Academy Award for Art, American Academy of Arts & Letters, and a solo exhibition at Mary Boone Gallery in NY,NY.
