Scholarships for Education majors – please read carefully as most have certain criteria that candidates must meet to be considered.

Hattie M. Strong Scholarship – for students during their internship semester.  Candidates must have demonstrated financial need, have a FAFSA on file, achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA and a complete application packet submitted by the deadline. AMOUNT: $5,000 to two students in a cycle.  DUE: April 11, 2016

NC Forgivable Education Loans for Service (NC FELS)

Established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2011, the Forgivable Education Loans for Service provides financial assistance to qualified students enrolled in an approved education program and committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina.  AMOUNT: Varies by hours and degree.  DUE: April 1, 2016.  Education areas are:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Comprehensive Science
  • ESL
  • Foreign Language
  • Math
  • Middle Grades
  • Physics
  • Special Education

 William Tasse Alexander Scholarship Fund

for legal residents of Mecklenburg County who are full time rising juniors or seniors in college majoring in the field of education.  Must have an overall GPA of 3.0.  AMOUNT: from $1000 to $3,500 at the discretion of the William Tasse Alexander Scholarship Committee.  DUE March 14, 2016

Pamella S. and Douglas R. Moll Scholarship

Created in honor of Pamella S. and Douglas R. Moll for the many years they have devoted to teaching in the elementary and middle schools.  Applicants must be an Elementary Education major and have completed 24 credit hours by the end of the semester of application.  GPA for freshmen and sophomore applicants – cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better; GPA for junior and senior applicants – cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.  Financial need is considered but not the sole determinant of the award. AMOUNT: $500 DUE: April 5, 2016 at 11:59 PM.

The NCCTM Trust Fund Committee semiannually accepts applications from NCCTM members who are pre-K-12 teachers and who are taking graduate courses in mathematics or mathematics education at an NC college or university as part of a graduate program leading to a graduate degree or graduate add-on mathematics licensure.

The Trust Fund Committee NOW awards scholarships of $1000 to as many qualified applicants as the available investment income from the Trust Fund will permit.

Scholarship applications may be submitted during the year, but is reviewed twice a year. Application deadlines are October 1st and March 1st with grants made at that time.
