Junior Braves

Dates:

June 10 – 14: Rising 1st - 2nd graders

June 17 – 21: Rising 3rd - 5th graders

UNC Pembroke offers rising 1st - 5th graders the opportunity to join the Junior Braves program for two weeks of fun, creativity and problem solving. The Junior Braves program is designed to motivate and inspire young learners to explore and excel at challenging activities. Junior Braves will engage campers in a variety of academic and technological skills. Enrichment workshops are designed to foster development of independent learning strategies as well as offer new experiences, discoveries, challenges, and excitement...all while enjoying the beautiful campus of UNC Pembroke.

Cummings Aerospace Camp

Dates: June 17 – 21: 3D Printing & Rocketry

Dates: June 24 – 28: Coding & Robotics

Grades: Rising 5th – 12th

Week 1: Participants explore rocketry through 3D design and printing. A weeklong experience combing the challenges of 3D design and rocketry with a focus on hands on learning, building, and launching rockets…for an out of the world adventure!

There are two cohorts this summer - Beginning (new students) and Advanced (returning students.)

3D Design:

  • Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of 3D design and how to use a 3D printer by completing multiple 3D printed projects.
  • Advanced students will learn how complex shapes and fitment types, like screws and clasps, through designing and printing a multi-step project.

Rocketry:

  • Beginning students will build and fly a rocket to explore the fundamentals of flight sciences. 
  • Advanced students will learn about the factors that drive rocket performance and implement them in their rocket design. 

Week 2: Participate in a robotics mission through coding. The focus will be on designing, building and programming robots…the finale will be a robotics competition!

Coding:

  • Beginning students will learn the importance and benefits of learning to write software and the basic Python coding functionality through the development of simple programs.
  • Advanced students will develop and practice in depth skills in Python through development of more complex programs. 

Robotics:

  • Beginning students will learn how to successfully assemble robots and then program them to complete specific behaviors using block code.
  • Advanced students will program their robots first using block code and then transition their code to Python.

All Sports Camp

Dates: July 8 – 12 or July 15 – 19

Grades: Rising 1st – 5th

UNC Pembroke All-Sports Camp provides planned activities to give kids exposure to a variety of sports and recreational activities. The summer camp is designed to provide group instruction in a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, volleyball, kickball, tennis, swimming, and flag football. The camp is staffed by UNCP student athletes and experienced counselors, and the focus is on fun. This multi-sport camp will provide a safe and fun environment for kids to play sports they already enjoy as well as try new activities…all while enjoying the beautiful campus of UNC Pembroke!

Fee per week: $160

AHEC Health Care Careers Camp

Dates: July 14 – 19

Grades: Rising 11th – 12th

Introducing our new residential health careers camp! Participants will learn about health care careers, explore the exciting world of health and science in an immersive, on-campus residential program. Students will be mentored by professionals, faculty, and college students with a passion for science. While staying in our on-campus residence hall, evening enrichment and professional development workshops will be offered as well. When students attend the Health Care Career Summer Camp, not only do they learn and develop as a student, but they are mentored and empowered to begin their path to college and medical careers. We build a cohort of passionate, like-minded peers, who will become the next generation of health leaders.

Fee: $300 (early bird) / $350 (after April 30) 

This is a partnership with UNCP College of Health Sciences.

Young Innovator Camp

Dates: July 22 – 26: “Internet of Things (IoT)” – Grades: 5th - 8th

Dates: July 29 – August 2: “Cyber Security” – Grades: 9th - 12th

Week 1: Ever wondered how the internet plays an important role in our everyday lives? The Internet of Things (IoT) is all around us, connecting physical objects like smart home devices and wearable fitness trackers to the internet. Welcome to UNCP’s “Young Innovators: Internet of Things” camp! You will experience hands-on activities and meet with technology experts to explore how the internet impacts our health, recreation, food and homes. 

Week 2: Cybersecurity is a top career for today's teens to consider, but it can be difficult to find information about what cyber professionals actually do or how to become one. Young Innovator Camp will share foundational information about cyber concepts and careers, and to inspire more young people to become our future cyber security experts.

Fee per week: $160

This is a partnership with The Thomas Entrepreneurship HUB and Emerging Technology Institute.
