The Literacy Commons is a growing organization that, since its inception in the late fall of 2011, has developed multiple projects and programs that offer literacy outreach to the city of Pembroke and the surrounding Robeson County region. Such projects and programs have been initiated and implemented by UNCP students, community members, and UNCP faculty. Below is a list of the many current projects and programs that are currently active.
Ribbon of Hope (GlaxoSmithKline Foundation)
The Literacy Commons was awarded the Ribbon of Hope Grant in spring 2016. This grant, awarded by the GlaxoSmithKline Foundation, provides funding to support the ongoing efforts of the UNC Pembroke Literacy Commons to promote and support literacy development in K-12 schools across the region.
