TRIO

TRIO

Congress established a series of programs to help low-income Americans enter college, graduate and move on to participate fully in America's economic and social life. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are referred to as the TRIO Programs (initially just three programs). While student financial aid programs help students overcome financial barriers to higher education, TRIO Programs help students overcome class, social, and cultural barriers to higher education.

The TRIO Program at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is Student Support Services (SSS).  This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide services to first-generation college students, low-income students, and students with disabilities who are seeking their bachelor's degree from UNC Pembroke.

Student Support Services 2020-2021 performance:

  1. 89% of SSS participants enrolled in the 2020-2021 academic year either persisted to the 2021-2022 academic year or graduated
  2. 87.5% of SSS participants were in good academic standing during the 2020-2021 academic year
  3. 63.79% of SSS participants graduated with a bachelor's degree within 6 years of entering college
