ENHANCED COVID-19 DASHBOARD COMING SOON

To provide more information about any potential exposure to COVID-19 on campus when our campus community returns, the university will be launching an enhanced reported case dashboard at uncp.edu/COVIDcases beginning August 3. The new dashboard will show current cases as well as cumulative cases for the semester updated every Monday by 5 p.m. The existing dashboard at the top of the main coronavirus site reports the cumulative total as cases are reported, and will continue to be available and updated should new cases be identified until Monday, August 3 when the new dashboard goes live.

WEBCAMS IN CLASSROOMS

In an effort to help support hybrid and remote instruction, DoIT has installed webcams with integrated microphones in every classroom. These basic webcams are connected to the instructor computer and will work with Webex or any other video conferencing platform of your choice. These webcams are intended to capture the instructor only when directly in front of the computer and will not automatically follow you if you move away from the podium. For more information about how to use the webcam, view the Ten4Tech video: https://youtu.be/rIjAHpiZrw0. The webcams are not intended to capture in-room whiteboard content for remote participants. To display typical whiteboard content to remote participants, DoIT recommends using a digital whiteboard solution. There are many options available for doing this highlighted in the following video: https://youtu.be/0cGuERb48ZA.

HEALTHY BRAVES PLEDGE

Beginning Monday, August 3, all faculty and staff will be asked to once again acknowledge the Healthy Braves Pledge as a reminder of your commitment to our community health and safety standards set forth in the Roadmap to Fall 2020.

Message from Chancellor July 24: Preparing for Fall 2020

BraveNation:

I hope everyone is excited about the start of our fall semester. Since March, campus hasn’t been the same without all of our students, faculty and staff who make it complete. I wanted to share a video message with you containing updates and highlights of key items from our RoadmapStudent Returning Safely to Campus Guide, and the Faculty and Staff Returning Safely to Campus Guide.

In addition, I would like to share recently released guidelines from the NC Department of Health and Human Services pertaining specifically to higher education. These guidelines follow closely with the plans we have in place for the fall semester. I realize this is a great deal of material, but please take the time to read these very informative documents, with the most up-to-date direction. With our virtual Town Halls and emails, we’ve tried to keep you informed, given the very fluid information around COVID-19. Please continue to check your emails and review the Roadmap and guides for any updates that may occur.

It will take a commitment to follow the guidelines we have in place from us all. It is the responsibility of each of us to keep our campus community healthy by doing our part—wearing a face covering, practicing social distancing, washing our hands and following all posted guidelines.

I look forward to our students’ arrival and to greeting everyone on campus in the upcoming weeks—with appropriate physical distance and face coverings, of course! Campus may look a little different, but it will still be the same UNCP experience we all love.

Go Braves!

Sincerely,

Robin Gary Cummings, MD

Chancellor
