Meet the Tutors

University Writing Center tutors enjoy talking about writing and have taken a semester-long course on tutoring writing. We look forward to meeting you in the Writing Center!

Brittany Glenn

Brittany Glenn

I am from Belmont, NC (near Charlotte).  I am an English major with a concentration in editing.  I am a member of English Club and Sigma Tau Delta and I enjoy reading, writing, camping, and traveling.

I'm working in the writing center not only to help writers feel accomplished, but also to practice critical reading for my future career.

Katelyn Lee

Katelyn Lee

I am from Mooresville, NC. I am a senior here at UNCP and I am majoring in political science with a concentration in pre-law. I am the president of the Political Science Club and a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. I enjoy laughing with my friends, baking, and crafting.

I enjoy working in the Writing Center because it gives me an opportunity to meet new people and help others improve their skills as writers.

Victoria Newkirk

Victoria Newkirk

I am from Wallace, North Carolina, a small town near the Wilmington coast. I am a sophomore majoring in middle grades social studies: history education, with a minor in special education. Music is one of my greatest passions, and I love listening to all genres. In my spare time I love to read, sleep, blog about what I’ve read, and read some more! After graduating, and while working on my master’s degree, I hope to teach social studies in a small town near Pembroke.

Working in the Writing Center is a wonderful job because it allows me to teach others what I know, while constantly learning new things from them. Writing is one of the greatest forms of communication available, and to help individuals express themselves through writing is one of the best feelings in the world!

Tank Steiner

Tank Steiner

Yes, I have a "real" name, but I prefer to be called Tank. I have been teaching English in a high school, tutoring, or teaching composition since 2007. I love to help my fellow students improve their writing. It is always shocking to me that I can read a hundred responses to an assignment prompt and learn some new unique perspective from each one. I am planning to pursue a PhD in rhetoric and composition, preferably from a school on the West Coast. If you are interested in getting help to improve your writing, please come see us!

Chase Whisenhunt

I am originally from Durham, NC but have also lived in both Surf City, NC and San Francisco, CA. I came to UNCP in 2003, graduated in 2007 with a B.S. in business administration, and returned in 2009 to earn my masters in public administration, which I finished in 2011. I have always been proud of my decision to come to UNCP . . . twice! I hope to teach and to assist non-profit organizations in rural communities like Pembroke in my future career.

I have been a part of the University Writing Center since 2009 and have enjoyed every minute of it. I truly enjoy working with students on all aspects of writing and am rewarded every day when I see students learn and improve. The relaxed atmosphere, friendly and fun peer tutors, and the environment of learning and collaboration make the Writing Center my favorite place to be!

I am from Bronx, New York, but I grew up in Fayeteville, North Carolina. I am a criminal justice major, and I hope to have a career in forensic toxicology. I enjoy reading, writing novels, crocheting, and watching anime.

I like working in the writing center because I enjoy helping others reach their full potential. I love to see people grow and develop the skills and imagination to be great writers.

I am the director of the University Writing Center and I also tutor students for several hours each week. I am originally from California, where I earned my B.A. and M.A. in English. I then lived in Seattle for nine years, directing a writing center and earning my Ph.D.

I enjoy teaching courses at UNCP but I am glad that I am also able to meet with students one-to-one as a tutor in the writing center. I love to hear about student's ideas and collaborate with them as they improve their writing.
