Students who are involved outside the classroom regularly report a more enjoyable college experience, a larger and more satisfying social network and better grades. Who wouldn’t want that? At UNC Pembroke, students are supported in their extra- and co-curricular involvement through programs and events offered by the Division of Student Affairs and other campus offices. There are numerous opportunities to attend, participate in and lead many of these programs. The diversity of UNCP’s student body extends to their extracurricular interests and engagement in student life. With more than 60 student organizations across eight interest areas (academic/departmental, diversity, fraternity/sorority, general interest, honorary, religious, service, and sports/recreation), students are involved in many facets of the campus and local community. In addition to student organizations, many students are also involved with service initiatives. The commitment to service, both on campus and at the local, state and national levels, has earned UNCP recognition on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. If music, dance and theatre are more your thing, you can join students who are broadly exposed to and heavily engaged in the performing arts community on campus. Student-directed theatre productions complement the Givens Performing Arts Center’s national touring shows and the University Theatre department’s annual productions. Students also have opportunities to participate in and attend the performances of thirteen music ensembles and the Spirit of the Carolina’s Marching Band. Student media options include The Pine Needle newspaper, The Aurochs literacy magazine, the Indianhead yearbook, WNCP-TV and WNCP ‘The Hawk’ radio station. Students serve as reporters, photographers, contributors and editors of each. If continuing your athletic career is important to you, become involved with our championship traditions on one of our NCAA division II athletic teams. For those not playing a sport, the English E. Jones Athletic Center hosts a fitness center that is free for students and/or you can participate with Campus Recreation and any of their intramural, club sport and off campus trip programs. There is plenty to do at UNCP. It’s up to you to get out there and attend, participate and lead! |
Here are just some of the many things going on at UNCP! |
