The office serves as a liaison between the University and local media, and produces various publications in support of athletic and fund-raising programs. Sports Information maintains its Web site (www.uncpbraves.com) with support from University Communications and Marketing. University Communications and Marketing also provides photography support for athletics.
Sports Information and its director are responsible for the athletic logo and approval of its use. The athletic nickname is the Braves and the University mascot is a red-tailed hawk. University Communications and Marketing maintains digital images of the athletic logo, which may be downloaded at www.uncp.edu/ucm/logos/.
University Printing
University Printing was established to serve many of the printing needs of the university. University Printing should always be consulted before a decision on printing is made. To contact University Printing, call 910.521.6203.
The Bid Process
State law requires competitive bids be received for all printing done outside the university. All projects over $5,000 are bid by Purchasing Services. For more information, contact Purchasing Services at 910.521.6349.
The Approval Process
University Communications and Marketing must approve all publications that are created for external audiences before being printed. University Printing will forward a copy to University Communications and Marketing. If a commercial printer is used, then it is the responsibility of the department to forward a copy to University Communications and Marketing.
Consistency of style, use of logo, meeting state requirements and quality are the primary purposes of the approval process.
If you are unsure if your publication is subject to this approval process, contact University Communications and Marketing.
Letterhead & Business
Card Design
As with all University publications, all departments and programs should
consult with University Printing before planning any stationery or business
card printing. University Printing can supply you with approved formats for
your printing needs.
Printing A Cost Statement
The State of North Carolina requires that a cost statement be included on printed documents that are produced in quantities of 200 or more that are printed with state funds and are intended for external distribution. Only documents printed for the sole purpose of sale to the public or printed with private funding sources are exempted from use of the cost statement. The cost statement may be placed in any location and may be printed in type as small as eight-point. The required wording of this statement is:
______ copies of this public document were designed and printed at a cost of $_____, or $_____ per copy.
Recycled Paper Is Encouraged
The State of North Carolina encourages the use of recycled paper, and it is wise to state this on the publication. Often a good place is near the cost statement in small type with the international recycling symbol.
Bulk Mailing Permit
As a non-profit organization, UNCP holds a special bulk third-class U.S. postal mailing permit. The permit may be used for approved University mail pieces. The bulk mail permit should be used for applicable mail pieces to conserve money. Bulk mail consists of a minimum of 200 pieces of identical size and weight. For bulk mail instructions, contact the UNCP Campus Mail Center. An example of how to print the bulk mail "stamp" can be provided to you by the Campus Mail Center. For more information, contact the Campus Mail Center at 910.521.6210.
Distribution of Publications
The University requests that all departments send one copy of all publications to University Communications and Marketing and one copy to the Office of the Chancellor. North Carolina state government agencies are required to deposit copies of some publications with the North Carolina State Publications Clearinghouse of the Division of the State Library, North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, according to G.S. 125-11.5. The state library has exempted many publications such as student recruitment publications, departmental brochures, events calendars, alumni news, news releases and publications for on-campus distribution. University Communications and Marketing can help you determine if your publication is required for deposit.
Color Publications
Because of the cost of four-color printing, all color publications that are paid for with state funds, must be submitted for approval by the state Department of Administration. For more information, contact Purchasing Services at 910.521.6349.
Mailing Lists
The state requires (GS 143-169) that each agency's mailing lists be revised annually to reflect changes or corrections, thereby saving the state wasted postal fees. Each agency head must certify this to the director of the budget on or before July each year. This applies to all publications printed in quantities of 200 or more for mailing. One-time mailers are not included.
The UNCP seal should be used on all official or authorized University publications, regardless of the funding source. The seal should appear on the cover (front or back) in a conspicuous and reasonably-sized space. University Communications and Marketing maintains digital images of the UNCP seal, which may be downloaded at www.uncp.edu/ucm/logos/.

A color seal should be used in color publications. However, for black and white publications, a logo with a black sun rising is preferred.

The seal
may never be modified in any way, either with different colors, superimposed
wording or with other logos or symbols without the permission of
the Chancellor. The seal should not be printed on top of a photograph,
but it may be used as a watermark or "double-burn."
The UNCP seal is a copyrighted product and protected property of the university.
It may not be used for personal profit or for fundraising without the approval
of the Chancellor.
School Colors
|
|
For school colors use PMS 872 gold ink. Where possible, PMS 872 ("old gold') will be used. For use of school colors on the University's web site, please contact the University Web Publisher at 910.521.6820 or web@uncp.edu.
If publication designers are unsure of these or other guidelines, please contact University Communications and Marketing.
Use of Email and Web Addresses
All publications should have an UNCP email and web address listed. All forms, especially business reply mailers, should request the customer's email address so that you can contact them using this method. UNCP's Web address should also be used on all publications. Departmental or other targeted mailings may direct customers to specific sites within the University's site. For example, www.uncp.edu/ucm/
