The Piano Men appear Nov. 18 at GPAC

Piano MenThe songs of Billy Joel and Elton John come to GPAC Thursday, November 18 at 8 p.m. as part of the Nostalgia Concert Series. A musical celebration of a decade we all fondly remember the ‘70s. The show is set entirely to the music of Billy Joel and Elton John, two of the creative icons of the period. "Your Song," "My Life," "Candle in the Wind," "Daniel" and "Just the Way You Are" are a few of the hits in this intimate and fun-filled evening.

Author to speak on Jewish cooking, culture in the South

There will be a lecture by Dr. Marcie Cohen Ferris on Southern Jewish Cuisine on Thursday, November 18 at 6 p.m. in Moore Hall Auditorium. She is author of the book “Matzoh Ball Gumbo: Culinary Tales of the Jewish South.”

Dr. Cohen Ferris will take her audience on a culinary journey through the Jewish South that begins in colonial Charleston, S. Ca., and Savannah, Ga., and concludes in the Mississippi and Arkansas Delta and Memphis, Tenn. Ferris will explore how food both separated and integrated Jews into the South.


International Education Week is Nov. 15-19

Wednesday Nov. 17
Find out what’s happening with international education from 10 – 11 a.m. at the University Center Mall. Semester and summer programs, tours, host family programs and study abroad will all be on display. Stop by and visit with Dr. Gary Wright, James Bass, Dr. John Bowman, Tina Murray, Jing Gao, Dr. Liliana Wendorff and Dr. Enrique Porrura, all study abroad veterans, sojourners and trip planners.

Friday Nov. 19
There will be an open house/drop-in for faculty and staff at the West Office Complex from 1 – 5 p.m.

Lunch - roasted veggie calzone and taco bar
Dinner - General Tso’s chicken and taco bar

Thursday
Lunch - baked tortellini with alfredo sauce and Thai fry

cheese enchiladas and fajitas

Friday
Lunch - cheese and bean burrito and Mongolian wok
Dinner - parmesan chicken Casserole, Cheese and jalapeno quesadilla and Mongolian wo
Lecture on traditional herbs as health and beauty aids

There will be a lecture on health and beauty aids, via traditional American Indian herbs and remedies by Mary and the Rev. George Locklear Monday, November 22 at 3:30 p.m. in Room 129 in the Multicultural Center of Old Main.

The annual Holiday Social for students, faculty and staff will be Wednesday, December 1 from 10 -11:30 a.m. in the University Center Lounge.

It features:

  • vote for UNCP Employee of the Year
