‘The Stephen Schwartz Songbook’ is October 7

Stephen Schwartz SongbookThursday, October 7, at 8 p.m., GPAC presents The Stephen Swartz Songbook. Tickets are $15 for faculty and staff.

The show is a collection of hits from the Grammy and Oscar award-winning songwriter Stephen Schwartz. He is best known for his musicals “Godspell,” “Pippin,” “The Magic Show,” “The Baker’s Wife,” “Working,” “Rags,” “Children of Eden” and his newest Broadway sensation, “Wicked.” His film works include “Pocahontas,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “The Prince of Egypt.” Songs are performed by Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte (“Broadway”), Tony Award nominee Liz Callaway (“Miss Saigon,” (CATS”) and Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets Award winner Scott Coulter.

Concert Choir performs October 12

The UNCP Concert Choir will give at Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. at GPAC. Free.

Hurricane expert to speak October 28

October 28 at 7 p.m. in Moore Hall Auditorium, the Friends of the Sampson-Livermore Library will present a timely talk by Jay Barnes, curator of the Pine Knolls Aquarium, on hurricanes in North Carolina. This is the 50th anniversary year of Hurricane Hazel, and he has been giving talks on the subject lately. He has also written books about hurricanes and floods in North Carolina and Florida.

Free HIV testing from Student Health Services

Free HIV testing is Wednesdays, October 20, November 3 and 17, 9 – 11 a.m. at Student Health Services. Contact Student Health Services at 521-6219 for an appointment.

Free blood pressure screenings at the U.C.

There is a free blood pressure screening Wednesdays, October 27, November 24 and December 8 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at the University Center.
