Dr. Zoe Locklear named interim dean

Zoe LocklearDr. Zoe Locklear (Education) will serve as interim dean of the School of Education through June 30, 2005.

Dr. Warren Baker stepped down as dean, effective December 31, 2004. He will return to the classroom full time in the spring.

“On behalf of Chancellor Meadors and the entire University community, I want to publicly thank Dr. Baker for his exceptional leadership over the past several years,” said Dr. Roger Brown, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. “It has been a pleasure working with Dr. Baker and congratulate him on the many accomplishments of the school under his direction.”

A national search will commence soon to identify and appoint a new dean.

“We are indeed fortunate to have someone with Zoe’s experience, knowledge and dedication to step into this position,” he said.

Dr. Locklear returned to UNCP in 2004 after a stint as associate superintendent for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. She was the first dean of the School of Education in 2000. She also served as an associate superintendent for the Public Schools of Robeson County.

A 1977 graduate, Dr. Locklear was named Outstanding Alumnus in 2003.

“Please join me in congratulating Warren on a job well done and welcoming Zoe back as interim,” Dr. Brown said.
