Faculty Senate Academic Support Committee Report
5 Year Technology Plan
Work is underway on a plan (with costs) to upgrade our technology assets (people and infrastructure) and funding. A small work group of faculty and staff have identified 38 different needs and prioritized 9 of those to the top. DoIT has performed a gap analysis on infrastructure needs and listed the backlog of current requests.
Clean Access
Clean Access has been implemented for ResNet computers. Clean Access is a network based technology that insures that computers attached to our ResNet (residence halls network) have current anti-virus protection and the latest security updates to their operating systems (i.e., Windows XP). In the main, the implementation has experienced minimal difficulty.
Teaching and Learning with Technology Collaborative – Annual conference
The 2006 TLTC Conference will again be held at the North Raleigh Hilton. Dates are March 15 – 17. The call for proposals can be found at http://conference.unctlt.org/proposals/overview.htm. The deadline for proposals is October 17. As of this writing, only 2 proposals have been submitted from UNCP. This year, as in years past, the Distance Education unit under Dr. Charles Tita plans to sponsor a limited number of attendees.
Computer Replacement
194 lab computers will be replaced with new equipment during the Winter break. This will cause a “ripple” of replacements as we use the replaced equipment to advantage (expected net moves are 194 x 3). We will also replace outdated faculty computers beginning after we complete the lab refreshes (51 computers).
