Student Support Services is a federally funded program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide services to eligible college students. Priority is given to those applicants who are low-income, disabled, or first generation college students. Those students who are not sure of their status may inquire at the Office of Student Support Services.
The Office of Student Support Services at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is designed to enrich student life academically, culturally, and socially to ensure a supportive environment for students adjusting to college life. Our staff provides students who are accepted into the program with supportive services that include counseling, instruction, tutoring, career development and financial aid assistance. SSS is also committed in increasing the retention/graduation rates and in helping students attain academic, social and personal success.
Counseling: A Helping Relationship
Our Counseling Program consist of professional assistance in career development, personal or social concerns, and financial aid advisement. Our ultimate intent is to provide students with necessary skills and information that will enable them to think and act independently, while at the same time, continuing to provide the support that students may desire.
Information regarding graduate and professional schools is provided in an effort to encourage students to develop to their highest academic potential.
The Tutoring Program assists students with additional academic preparation as desired: The staff encourages all students to be able to identify tutoring needs and to seek assistance promptly. Most courses in which students are enrolled are covered in the tutoring program. Tutorial services are provided by a Science Academic Specialist and a Math Academic Specialist. Upperclassmen are also used as Tutors who are obtaining a major in the particular field of study requested.
Please complete, print and return the application to Student Support Services.
