Learning Objects
Learning objects, generally speaking, are any reusable online tool or digital resource that assists in the teaching and learning process.
Learning object repositories exist to assist educators and students with the learning process. They are created and managed by educators and institutions that support learning. Repository sites provide finding tools such as advanced search engines and browse-by-subject links. Repositories may serve as the main developer and clearinghouse for learning objects, while others, such as MERLOT and the UNC TLT PDP, review and link to the learning objects they recommend.
Educators may use many of the learning objects without cost or permission.
Note: Some learning objects require additional multimedia software, such as Shockwave, Flash, QuickTime, and Java plug-ins. Most sites will offer to download the necessary software automatically.
"Learning Objects" was made possible through a TLC-sponsored mini-grant.
