UNCP Swim School
Serving over 500 patrons a summer
Welcome to the 32th annual Summer Swim School at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
The UNCP Swim School has provided area residents the unique opportunity to receive quality swimming instruction for all levels of swimming from preschool swimming, competitive swimming, and adult swimming. In addition to swim class, we also offer Guard Start, Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Instructor Classes. Our lifeguard class train lifeguards for
pools, water parks, lakes, and ocean fronts across the state. Our water safety instructor class trains patrons to be able to teach all levels of swimming. The swim school in conjunction with American Red Cross materials and programs prides itself on its reputation of being a leader in water safety in the state.
The UNCP Swim School recommends that children start taking swimming lessons around age four but does accept children as young as three. Also our pool water temperature is maintained constantly at around 85 degrees which promotes optimal learning. We recommend that every child and adult take lessons until they can be certified to the American Red Cross level IV which insures their safety and maximum enjoyment of water activities. Those interested in becoming a lifeguard or competitive swimmers should complete level V and VI to insure their basic knowledge of the techniques, strokes, turns, and starts used in lifesaving and or competitive swimming.
