Attach an essay* of at least 1000 words that addresses
the following: Note: Each of the three
below must be addressed adequately
in the essay; therefore, you may want to divide the essay into three sections
with each section indicated by a heading so that you remember to address each,
and so that the reader clearly sees where you are attempting to address each.
1.
Why do you want to enter the professional undergraduate
program in social work,
and
what experiences led you to think that the social work profession is an
appropriate
career goal for you?
2.
Discuss a major social problem that you are interested
in. You do not need to be an expert
on the problem; however,
remember that instructors in the School of Social Work who are
familiar with most social
problems will read the essay. You are
not being asked to write a formal
research paper on the problem; this
is only a section of an essay. However,
if you consult sources,
remember that you are required
to cite the sources of the information or ideas within the paper
and give a complete reference
at the end of the essay.
3.
Read the NASW Code
of Ethics (www.naswdc.org/pubs/code)
and discuss it briefly in this section
of the essay. Your discussion should first address the
Overview section of the Code and the
Purpose section (What is the
Code and what is its purpose in social work?).
Then select one Ethical Principle or Ethical Standard, discuss it
briefly and how you would apply it in your professional work as a social worker
with clients.
You may also include any special circumstances that you
would like the admissions committee to consider.
*Essay needs to be typed, double-spaced. Do
not put your name on the essay; attach the essay to this form.
