UNC Pembroke Student Affairs Student Advisory Board (SASAB)
The Student Affairs Student Advisory Board is a team of approximately 20 current, engaged student leaders reflecting the diversity of UNC Pembroke student body. This Board is responsible for providing strategic input to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Division of Student Affairs Administration. They also share ideas, thoughts, and concerns and offer another voice to Student Affairs on current issues affecting students and its mission of providing transformational opportunities for students. The Board meets at least monthly with Student Affairs administrators as well as other top University officials to discuss various issues related to both the University and the town of Pembroke. The meetings are hosted by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
- To give constructive feedback about Student Affairs programs, services, and new initiatives.
- To assist Student Affairs in identifying strengths to build upon and areas in which to improve.
- To assist in the marketing efforts of Student Affairs through innovative techniques including social media.
- To facilitate and promote interaction amongst the student body.
- To assist Student Affairs in gaining information about developing interventions for under-engaged students.
- To assist Student Affairs in creating a sense of specialness about being a student at UNCP.
Membership Members serve no more than a two-year term at the discretion of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
SASAB membership is open to all UNC Pembroke undergraduate and graduate students. Membership is open regardless of race, national orientation, political affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, handicap, color, and marital status. Although students may self-nominate, most of the membership will be appointed by the SGA President and the Academic Deans. Additional, memberships will include representation from the Student Representatives to the Board of Trustees, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Residential Housing Council, Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Native American Student Organization, and Graduate Student Organization.
Ex officio members of the Board may include the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Directors in Student Affairs, or UNCP alumni.
SASAB will meet six or seven times a year during the noon hour. Lunch will be provided by Student Affairs.
The qualifications are as follows:
- Students must have and maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA;
- Students must work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and maintain flexibility;
- Students must attend regularly scheduled meetings;
- Students must maintain a professional demeanor; and,
- Students must show remarkable leadership skills in their respective departments or organization.
Some incentives for serving on the Student Affairs Student Advisory Board are as follows:
- Visual representation on the Division of Student Affairs website [i.e.: pictures]
- Opportunity to attend seminars and workshops provided departments in the Division of Student Affairs;
- Serve as a professional representative of the University as a whole; and,
- Serve as a liaison between the Division of Student Affairs and the student body to disseminate information.
