The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership is dedicated to helping UNC Pembroke students develop their leadership capacity and campus engagement. Support from private donations helps enhance the overall learning experience for our students by increasing the number of opportunities we are able to provide.LeaderShape, funding student organization initiatives, presenting major social events, and exposing students to content experts from beyond the borders of campus either via trips or by hosting these experts on campus.
Donations from private donors will be used to support several initiatives including but not limited to hosting
UNC Pembroke has hosted LeaderShape since 2007. The LeaderShape Institute challenges participants to lead with integrity while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. Participants explore not only what they want to do, but who they want to be. Dynamic, challenging, and exciting, the week is intended to produce a breakthrough in the leadership capacity of participants — benefiting them individually, as well as their respective communities and the organizations they will go on to lead and serve in the future. Give to the OSIL in support of LeaderShape.
Student organization involvement is the leadership learning laboratory for many students on campus. While many organizations collect dues or fund raise to meet their financial needs, more often than not these funds do not sufficiently support these organization. Donation would support on campus initiatives and events and off campus professional development and cultural experiences for a variety of student organizations through the OSIL funding application process. Give to the OSIL in support of student organization initiatives.
Every other year the university has been hosting major touring acts selected by the student body. From the Pringles Tour concert featuring We the Kings and J Cole to the comedic rants of Gabriel Iglesias (aka Fluffy) and Michael Ian Black, students rave about these large scale events and continue to inquire about when the next major show will be on campus. Give to the OSIL in support of major social events.
From the 2000 to 2001 academic year through the 2012-13 academic year, the office has hosted the Distinguished Speaker Series. As speaker fees have increased our ability to present as many speakers has diminished up until 2013-14 when it was no longer feasible to host these inspiring individuals. While we still occasionally host speakers on campus they do not all rise to the level the distinguished speakers series has established. Private donations will help us continue to expose UNCP students to the best and brightest minds and ideas visiting college campus today. Give to the OSILin support of content experts.
