About Our Campus:

Overview
The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) is located adjacent to the small town of Pembroke in the southeastern region of North Carolina about halfway between Washington DC and Atlanta, Georgia. The beautiful beaches of the North Carolina coast are just an hour and a half from campus by car.
UNCP was founded in 1887 and is one of 16 schools that comprise the University of North Carolina (UNC). As a public, four-year masters’ degree granting university, it leads all 16 University of North Carolina system schools in student satisfaction in a wide range of areas, including overall academic experience and campus safety. UNCP is the safest campus among all 16 UNC universities.
UNCP is one of the fastest growing universities in the U.S, yet the University’s small classes give every student the opportunity to excel and flourish. It is a place where “learning gets personal” and one of the nation’s “best value” undergraduate institutions, featured in the 2007 edition of “America’s Best Value Colleges” by Princeton Review. Princeton Review named UNCP one of its “Best Colleges: Region by Region” in the Southeastern region for four consecutive years. UNCP also ranked high in several key categories of the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges and Universities 2009.” UNCP is ranked No. 80 as a southern, regional university by U.S. News & World Report 2013. In addition, UNCP is recognized by the Ministry of Education in China.

Academics
UNCP challenges students to embrace differences and adapt to change, to think critically, communicate effectively, and become responsible citizens. Working from a strong foundation in the liberal arts, UNCP infuses its curriculum with an international perspective, interdisciplinary innovation, and actively promotes undergraduate and graduate research as well as international opportunities.
The University offers 41 bachelors’ and 18 masters’ degrees. Business Administration (with concentrations in Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, International Business and Enterpreneurship) is one of the most popular degrees among international students at UNCP. Programs in Accounting, Computer Science, English, Environmental Science, Information Technology, Mass Communication, and Math are also favored by international students. UNCP promotes excellence in teaching and learning as its primary focus. The University’s learning environment is characterized by free inquiry and active exchange among students, faculty, staff and administrators. The student faculty ratio is 15:1, and the average class size is 21. Because of the rigors of the curriculum and the personal attention students receive, graduates go on to create vibrant, interesting lives for themselves. UNCP's job placement rate for students is about 90 percent one year after graduation.

Campus life
Students are encouraged to expand their horizons through participation in activities outside of the classroom. Our students are an active group, participating in 16 intercollegiate and 14 intramural sports, as well as recreational fitness. All students have access to the track, swimming pool, weight room, and fitness center for their own workouts—plus it’s a great way to make friends! With our compact campus and close-knit community, it’s easy to become involved in social, athletic, and service activities. Students are also actively involved in student organizations, clubs, and the campus band, through which they develop the leadership and team spirit. The Office of International Programs (IP) at UNCP provides excellent services to international students by providing academic advice, shuttle service, frequently organizing cultural excursions (e.g. New York, Washington D.C, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and many North Carolina scenic spots) and celebrating traditional U.S. and Chinese holidays.
Some of the Chinese students graduating from UNCP made it to the top universities for graduate programs, which include Columbia University (U.S. ranking No. 8), Vanderbilt University (No. 17), South Wales University in Australia (World Ranking No. 47), HongKong University of Science and Technology, etc.
