Field experiences are an integral part of the teacher preparation program. All field experiences occur in partnership schools that form the Professional Development Collaborative (PDC).
All field experiences are planned and sequenced to extend the principles and practices of the program's theme and knowledge base. In addition, all of the field experience and course work sequences work together to contribute to a teacher candidate's work sample product which is developed over the course of the professional program.
Student Teaching is the
capstone field experience of the UNCP teacher
candidate's professional preparation for a teaching
career. It is a full-time apprenticeship as a UNCP
student that encourages and supports p
re-service
teachers as they grow and evolve developmentally to
become competent and qualified professionals.
As a student teacher you will be required to
register for full-time status at UNCP and to be in
the field for a full-semester. Student teachers work
one-to-one with a veteran teacher , who will serve
as a mentor. Student teachers will also be assigned
to a university supervisor who will observe and
evaluate instruction.
