PRESCHOOL ADD-ON LICENSURE

PRESCHOOL ADD-ON LICENSE

The Preschool Add-On License, adopted in 2000, is available only to teachers who hold a clear license in elementary education, special education, or family and consumer sciences. It prepares teachers to work with children from 3 to 5 years of age in inclusive settings, with and without disabilities, and their families.

PRESCHOOL ADD-ON PLAN AT UNCP

At UNC-Pembroke, the add-on programs are offered on campus, online, and in the evenings at Fayetteville Technical Community College. This program meets licensure requirements by the NC Department of Public Instruction and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The following courses will meet the criteria for those students holding the degrees as listed:

Elementary Education

ECE 301	Intro to Early Childhood Education
ECE 321	Curriculum & Environments in Preschool Programs, 3-5 yrs.
SED 322	Curriculum & Environments for Children with Special Needs, 0-5 yrs
ECE 390	Practicum in Child Study: Birth-Five
ECE 400	Developmental Assessment for Young Children
SED 482	Supporting Families of Preschool Children with Disabilities

 

Special Education

*Required coursework for individual students is contingent upon review of the students' academic transcripts from all institutions attended by the student.

For admissions to this program, the following items should be submitted:

• A letter of intent to pursue the Preschool Add-On
• A copy of your current license(s)
• Official college transcripts
• Request for an Individualized Education Program form
• Principal's recommendation form (if applicable)
