CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAM

The Criminal Justice Program provides students with a thorough understanding of the social organization and administration of the criminal justice system. Courses are offered in theories of crime and delinquency, law enforcement, courts, corrections, and administration. A criminal justice agency internship is required for most students, but an additional criminal justice course may be substituted for students with extensive prior work experience related to criminal justice.

The Criminal Justice Program at UNC Pembroke is accredited by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

SOCIOLOGY PROGRAM

Sociology is part of a liberal arts program designed to prepare students to take their place in the community as productive professionals in a variety of diverse, human service and related careers. The program currently has four minors (i.e., Community Development, Gender Studies, Medical Sociology and Substance Abuse) which permit students to focus and nurture their interests in specialities within Sociology.

An internship is available whereby the student is placed with a local agency, organization or service provider. This experience provides a unique setting in which to learn, build personal and interpersonal skills and network. These activites enhance student opportunities for employment after graduation.
